San Diego, CA — Amauris Medical is proud to announce its participation in an upcoming medical mission to rural Guatemala in partnership with DOCARE International, a global nonprofit providing healthcare to underserved communities through volunteer physician missions. This will mark Amauris’ first official field deployment, laying critical groundwork for the organization’s mission to integrate decentralized 3D printing into low-resource clinical settings.
The Amauris team will accompany 30 physicians and healthcare professionals from DOCARE International to remote Guatemalan communities, where DOCARE will provide essential care to hundreds of patients in need. While this is primarily a clinical service mission for DOCARE, Amauris is conducting a strategic reconnaissance effort — gathering insights and building partnerships to determine how best to support rural hospitals and clinics with on-demand 3D printing of medical supplies.
“This is a major milestone for us,” said Aaron Clark, Founder and CEO of Amauris. “We’re not just bringing technology — we’re bringing a commitment to understand the real-world needs of local providers. Field observations like this are vital as we design practical, durable, and medically effective tools for decentralized manufacturing.”
A Mobile 3D Printing Unit in Action
To support the mission and test its field-readiness, Amauris will be traveling with a portable SLA 3D printer, capable of producing critical tools and components on-site. The printer will be available to the DOCARE team in case of unanticipated medical device needs, equipment repairs, or to demonstrate the potential of rapid prototyping in the field.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by Amauris to deploy 3D printing pods across regions where access to reliable medical equipment is often limited by geography, infrastructure, or supply chain breakdowns. These pods — powered by open-source files from the Amauris Digital Stockroom™ — are designed to produce surgical instruments, diagnostic tools, and patient care accessories directly at the point of need.
Building for the Future
This mission represents a vital step in Amauris’ larger strategy to integrate localized manufacturing into global health systems. The field data and relationships developed in Guatemala will inform future deployments across Central America and Africa, where Amauris is already building partnerships with local NGOs through its recently announced collaboration with Give to Africa.
“We believe that truly equitable healthcare access will be built on local resilience, not just global logistics,” Clark added. “This mission is the first of many that will bring us closer to a world where no clinic is left without the tools they need.”
